It's actually quite simple, the U.S over last few decades has allowed the big healthcare providers to take control over the healthcare system and in the process allow it to be privatized.
Now, even if you have health insurance it is not in the health provider's interest to pay out on your claim for surgery as it means they lose money. So in affect, helping people get better goes AGAINST what they stand for, which is making profit.
The same goes for big pharma. It is not in their interest to sell people cheap medicine. Which is why some medicines cost people thousands of dollars each month.
