Welcome to my Hebrew reading & language series.
Genesis 14:14-19
Every time I run into this person, I have to ask myself a bunch of good questions. Who is this King of Salem? How did he become a "Priest of the Most High? Why does Abram feel subservient to him? Why would Abram pay him a tenth of his possessions? And what is with the bread and wine?
There were no priests until the Levi'im in the desert of Sinai. I am not one to speculate, and I most certainly will not accept any answers that are not supported by many scriptures.
In addition to all of the above, Yeshua had gathered his twelve and ate bread and wine with them. Because they were all children of Israel, and by extension, children of Abraham, these men would have recognized the parallels. Still, I do not see any clear answers to my questions. This is a mystery to me. Let me know if you have any thoughts.
