Welcome to my Hebrew reading & language series.
Genesis 25:21-23
His wife was not able to have children, as we saw last week, so Isaac prays about that in our reading for this Shabbat. She will be the first mother of twins, as it turns out, and she goes to consult YHVH about what is happening within her.
He explains that there are two nations inside of Rebekah. With that, the story of these two continues in the rest of the books of the Tanakh and even in our time. Here is the English.
Continuing
And Isaac prayed to YHVH for his wife, because she was barren. And YHVH granted his prayer, and Rebekah his wife conceived. The children struggled together within her, and she said, "If it is thus, why is this happening to me?" So she went to inquire of YHVH. And YHVH said to her, "Two nations are in your womb, and two peoples from within you shall be divided; the one shall be stronger than the other, the older shall serve the younger."
It is not uncommon to see the four letters of The Name appearing many times in even a short excerpt of text. Many promises and blessing appear throughout scripture for those who know, revere, proclaim, or declare the name. Curious why so many do not know it or even speak it.
The story continues next week as the boys are born...
