Welcome to my Hebrew reading & language series.
Genesis 27:39-41
Despite Isaac's protest, Esau asked his father to also bless him last week.
Isaac gives in this week, saying that he will live far from the fat of the land, away from the dew of heaven, and by his sword. That he will serve his brother but will be able to break his yoke in the end.
This non-blessing made Esau angry enough to threaten the life of his brother. It seems he had decided to wait until after his father dies...
Today's reading
English
Then Isaac his father answered and said to him:
"Behold, away from the fatness of the earth shall your dwelling be,
and away from the dew of heaven on high.
By your sword you shall live, and you shall serve your brother;
but when you grow restless you shall break his yoke from your neck."
Now Esau hated Jacob because of the blessing with which his father had blessed him, and Esau said to himself, "The days of mourning for my father are approaching; then I will kill my brother Jacob."
