Welcome to my Hebrew reading & language series.
Genesis 28:6-9
Last week, Jacob skipped town to get away from his brother's wrath. Esau had overheard that his father did not want his boys to date girls from Canaan.
As usual, when you tell a child not to do something specific, that is precisely what they do, sometimes just to spite you. Isaac cannot seem to win at all as these boys grow older.
Esau ends up marrying the daughter of Ishmael, Isaac's half brother who was also not given his blessing as the first born. There seems to be a pattern in the history of all of this.

Now Esau saw that Isaac had blessed Jacob and sent him away to Paddan-aram to take a wife from there, and that as he blessed him he directed him, "You must not take a wife from the Canaanite women," and that Jacob had obeyed his father and his mother and gone to Paddan- aram. So when Esau saw that the Canaanite women did not please Isaac his father, Esau went to Ishmael and took as his wife, besides the wives he had, Mahalath the daughter of Ishmael, Abraham's son, the sister of Nebaioth.
