I went on a day trip to Lassen Volcanic National Park. It's been over 100F and with terrible air quality in the valley where I live, I decided to get the heck out of town! Here's a photo documentation some of my favorite views of the park and the ascent of Mount Lassen.
Near the park entrance overlooking an area that used to be a ski lodge.
Eroded features from a geologically active area.
Lassen Peak from the base.
Looking down on Lake Hellen and the parking lot to the Lassen Peak trailhead.
One of the few straightaways on the trail.
The peak with lots of molten lava residue from last eruption of 1915. Oh, and lots of snow!
Just missed some snowboarders go down the volcano.
Man looking north east from the top of Lassen Peak.
Looking north east below the volcano.
A great view from the top.
This bag of pork skins surprisingly didn't explode from the high elevation.
This little guy was trying to steal my pork rinds.
The high elevation with winds keep plants and trees small and gnarled.
Another great peak showing volcanic activity and erosion.
The roads are really well maintained in the National Park. They also blend into the natural environment really well.
