On April 20th J. Cole released his 5th album KOD, which broke the previous record that was held by Views from Drake in 2017 by receiving 64.5 million streams on Apple Music. And the accolades doesn’t stop there.. This week on the all-genre Hot 100 singles ranking, KOD hit number one. But what J Cole has done is more than create a dope album that is well deserving of the accolades. When the dust settles and we look back 3-5 years from now, KOD will be revered as a classic album.
J. Cole expressed such creativity and beauty in his ability to experiment with his cadence and use that weird sort of rhythmic syncopated cadence known as “mumble rap” but was able to spit bars. Showing many of the young rappers today; that actual meaningful words can be uttered over a beat. No Russ, it’s not the producers fault that the quality of the new hip hop music is trash. It’s the trash rappers who can’t write. Anyways, I got side track.
Moving on…. Many notable celebrities and hip hop peers gave props to Dreamville’s Finest but I think Fabolous summed it up the best with this post on his IG page:
