This land once was the heart of Bengal and there were many powerful Buddhist kingdoms and Hindu empires before the people converted to Islam. Bangladesh is rich with archaeological wealth. It has Paharpur Buddhist Vihara in Naogaon- the ruins of a Buddhist monastery which was called Somapura Mahavihara, Mainamati in Comilla- one of the most important Buddhist archaeological sites in the region, Mahasthangarh in Bogra- the wreckage of an ancient city, Shat Gambuj Mosque in Bagerhat- a UNESCO world heritage site, Lalbagh Fort in Dhaka- one of the finest specimen of Mughal structure, Panam City Sonargaon in Narayanganj- once capital of Bengal, Uttara Gonobhaban in Natore- once the royal palace of the maharajas of Dighapatia, Baliati Prasad in Manikganj, Bagha Mosque in Rajshahi, Idrakpur Fort in Munshigonj, Jorbangla Temple in Pabna, Kantajew Temple in Dinajpur, Muktagacha Zaminder Bari in Mymensingh and Puthia Palace in Rajshahi.Despite having huge possibilities of developing an excellent tourism industry the tourism sector of Bangladesh has been struggling for a long time. Lack of guidelines has made our tourism industry a backbencher in the world tourism market. Gradually the numbers of foreign tourists are decreasing in our country. If Bangladesh wants to explore its tourism potentials it has to understand the product value of tourism.
