chief josephs a true story of his rifle and the nez pierce conflict of 1877

As a Nez Pierce warriors father has been shot by a rancher whos horses were not stolen but on his land the warriors heart feels anger and sadness . He then takes his fathers body to the chiefs as he enters camp the women sings death songs as he wants to fight and have the rancher take reaponisbility for his actions chief Joseph says to wait as does looking glass and the other chiefs . The chiefs say to the warrior theylltheyll demand justice for the murder of their brother to General Howard who feels as the native americans are beig moved to reservaruons unjustly as well as reschooled as the chiefs argue at their council sitting on buffslo robes states they want to be themselves livr as their people before them lived the earth is their mother and not owned but respected as many do to this day.

As Howard gived 4 days for the nez pierce answer chief joseph talks for three days wanting to go peacefully as the warrior from before takes a band of men and kills the rancher as howard knows chief joseph wants peace the warrior starting a war. The army bringing civilians to back them up in case of a fight later ordered to stay back as chief jodeph sends three men with a white flag of truce pna wooden pole a civilian opened fire. The nez pierce going in for flank after shots were fired defending themselved as the truce was violated as chief joseph was about to go to the reservation pescefully ran to save his people 34 soldiers firing soon dead as the nex pierve retaliated Soon after howard crosses the river in the night as chief joseph moves his people across the same night his captain putting on a show as a distaction for the nez pierce but nonetheless outfoxed by chief joseph as they travel to canada as howard knows he has to follow his order and bring joseph in knowing its wrong deep in his hesrt fighting himself as hesmoched by general sherman and the press thibking hes incspible bur only msn thst has the heart to resolve this honoribly as people side with the nez pierce during howards campaighn . A major battle happend at the battle of the bowl where they were csnping and the other cavalry man masacred many nez pierce as tjey did not wsnt ro fifhr bur svoid conflict killing more women and children even elderly and some wwrrios all but around 100 nez pierce reduced even more . Later howard sent word by telagraph to another captain or general to meet ahesd of the nez pierce knowing theyll try to claim glory and kill again as chief josephs tribe fights for their women and children the elderly singing death songs so the tribe can go on left behind as times in war stalling for Genersl howard to arrive chirf joseph surrendering his rifr believing in howard and his hesrt as he knows all equal all brothers white native all people from all cultures traditions and ways no matter the skin or race as he wants peace and harmony his wife and baby going across to canada where the buffalo were not as scarce as in the plains from 50 million to 300 later saved and numbers growing from extinction and looking glass also died in the last encounter.
