I'm a sucker for old signs. It's a lost art, the craft of painting signs by hand. The style of the letters, the colors, the patina of age- I'm hooked. Around the older buildings at MIT are door numbers, painted decades ago.
Each time the door is repainted, the original numbers are left inside a rectangle. Sometimes the painter is bold and paints up to the numbers. I fear their time is short.
The old buildings are being renovated at an increasing pace. I have more work to do to capture the rest before they are gone!
