В этот период в Российской Империи несмотря на высокую рождаемость (5-8 детей в семье тогда было вполне естественно) детская смертность оставалась весьма высокой.

Yegor (Georgy) Arsenyevich Pokrovsky (1834–1895) - Russian pediatrician, psychologist, philanthropist, Doctor of Medicine. The largest researcher of children's physical education and children's folk games of different peoples and regions of Russia of the 19th century, whose books on the problems of the world of childhood have been published and reprinted for three centuries in a row.
E. A. Pokrovsky collected children's belongings and accessories from all over Russia: cradles, gurneys, dolls, clothes, recipes of children's food, children's games of the peoples inhabiting Russia. About 100 unique exhibits and 69 drawings, transferred to them in the Museum of Pedagogy, then went to the Polytechnic Museum, but they were not preserved there, but were partially transferred to other museums and now form part of the REM collection, which is proven by modern researchers.
