The Lustgarten is the place to be in Berlin when the sun is shining. It is a beautiful huge park centred in the middle of Museum Island. It gives you full view of the Berliner Dom and Altes Museum.
The Lustgarten was previously known as the Kitchen Garden in the 16th Century after the wreckage of war Berlin was reconstructed again by Friedrich Wilhelm the King of Prussia. It was the work of his dutch wife who redeveloped the Kitchen Garden and recalled it the Lustgarten. She converted the formal garden with the help of landscape gardener Michael Hanff and Military engineer Johan Mauritz. Designing the geometric paths and the beautiful water fountains seen in the centre.
During the time of Hitler the park was used for rallies and demonstrations. In the 20's and 30's it was mostly used for rallies and protests against the right wing Nazi's. Hundreds of thousands of people protested in the park and later it was banned to protest against the regime.
By the end of the Second World War the park had been destroyed and it was a wasteland for bombs. The Democratic Republic of Germany renamed the whole park Marx-Engels-Platz but planted trees around the area to take the Military war look away from it.
After the reunification of Germany in 1990 it was finally a park again with it's fountains and features returned during the construction started in 1998 which was designed by architecture Hans Loidl.

As you can see many people take advantage of the park on beautiful days it is a nice relaxing spot to sit and take in the surroundings and also a nice place to sit with a picnic or cold beer too
If your lucky you will be able to watch some entertainment even just someone busking beside the fountain playing guitar it sets the mood
There is much talent dotted around everywhere in Berlin and we managed to see this guy before going to the park playing Jazz music.
I come to the park often to relax and enjoy the peacefulness of it
These where taken again yesterday as it was another beautiful day in Berlin with the sun shining it was a super hot day perfect for the park.
You have to go to this park at least once when you visit Berlin to just sit and chill out. It is also right beside the Berliner Dom and the Altes Museum so go take in the history of these buildings and then relax your legs in the park
