Apollo 8- 1st manned Moon voyage launched. Astronauts involved in this launch were Frank Borman, Jim Lovell and William Anders.
Apollo 8 was the first manned spacecraft to leave earth and reach the moon and return safely back to earth. The three main astronaut crew, Commander Frank Borman, Command Module Pilot Jim Lovell and Lunar Module Pilot William Anders became the first humans to travel beyond low earth orbit.
Apollo 8 took 3 days to travel to the moon and the crew made a Christmas Eve television broadcast reading the first 10 verses of the book of Genesis. This broadcast became a hit all around the world at that time.
The crew made it back to Earth on December 27, 1968 and landed in the Northern Pacific Ocean.
