On returning from Lagos he was appointed transport clerk in the colonial administration. Between 1924/1925, he served as a clerk to his father. Between 1926/1927, he went to Abeokuta to understudy the advance system of native Authority Administration in Egba land.

On his return in 1928, he was appointed district head of Ekiador native court. In 1931, he was initiated into Iwebo palace society on the demise of his father, he was invested with the title of Ediaken of Uselu.
On 5th April 1933, he was crowned as a king with the title Oba Akenzua II. He was installed by Lt.Gov Buchana Smith.
