In the past, the Dutch East Indies was a tourist destination of the rich Europeans, to the aristocrats and high-ranking European officials. As in this photo, in 1929 the crown prince of Belgium, Leopold III and his wife Astrid of Swedish kerajaam. This photo was taken in Bandung, in this visit the couple had visited several places in Java. Five years after this trip, Leopold III was crowned the King of Belgium. Tragically, a year after Leopold III received as queen, Astrid died in an accident in Switzerland
