Water skiing was invented on Lake Pepin, Minnesota, when a chap called Ralph Samuelson attached a pair of wooden boards onto his feet and got a boat to pull him along using a clothesline as a towrope.
That was 1922. Since then the activity has developed into a major exhibition sport, making the olympics for the first time in 1972.
Iv’e been unable to find out who made this colourful action picture of a three girl waterski pyramid, but it was taken in Florida in 1957. The world ski pyramid record was set in Lake Wazeecha in Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin, USA, on 14 September 2013 with a total of 60 water skiers!
