So now, after reading my introduction are you now interested to visit our beloved place? ughh, wait, I know you are now wondering why Cebu is called Queen City, here's the explanation about that, it is called Queen City of the South because of its potential in terms of Economy and Infrastructure, Cebu's economy is now rising and its a very good news for us Cebuanos.
If you are a new comer in Cebu have you ever wondered where it all began ? So, i'll be talking to you a lil bit history of it, Why is it called Cebu ? The word sibu or sibo meaning "trade", is a shortened form of sinibuayng hingpit means "the place for trading".
Cebu was founded by Magellan himself on April 7, 1521, with his three remaining vessels, set up a cross on the shore at a place called Zubu and, having received a friendly reception from the natives, baptised their chief, Humabon, his wife Juana and 800 of their followers. Cebu thus became the first centre of the Christian faith in the Philippines, but when Magellan came to the small neighboring part of Mactan, he did not got the warm welcome he got previously, instead he was greeted by hail of arrows. Magellan was killed by Lapu Lapu on April 27, 1521. Lapu Lapu was declared Philippine National Hero for his greatness in fighting spanish invaders in their place.
The history i mentioned above is based on the History book in school, i just summarizes some important detail.
