The Babylonian medicine was not medicine with the full meaning but it was under the effect of a juggling and magic. Babylonians believed that the cause of the disease was due to Sprite evil or demon enters the patient’s body as a result there were magic procedures to treat the disease combined with medical prescriptions. The word doctor was called in Akkadian language called ASO derived from the Sumerian language ia-zu which means the man who knows the water or oil ,the underlying thrust of word Aso was predicted with water, perhaps with the help of the God of water Aea, the Babylonian believed also the medicine in Babylon was under protection of the god called Ninazu this god had son called Ningizdda his hair was like Stick wrapped with snakes this shape still in use until this day as symbol for medicine.
Babylonians doctors were interested in mental and Psychological illness some of these psychological mentioned in their description for instance delusions, anxiety, nightmare, depression, schizophrenia, madness. It is a disease which had been described accurately, epilepsy, nervous breakdown all these mental diseases treated by magic or religious orders or spiritual prayer and ask for forgiveness and pray.
Babylonian doctors have used scientific way in prepared drugs they used boiled and mixtures liquid in preparing their medicine the clay table indicates that Babylonian were able to prepare 250 properties from herbs, they had their special way in treatment and preparing .They divided their table to four columns.
1- First column was for the Name of herbs.
2 - Second column was for patient name.
3 - Third column was for how to prepare the medicine from different herbs.
4 - Fourth column was for how many times the patient takes his medicine.
Hammurabi law initiated a boundary between the priestly practice for medicine and the beginning of the emergence of medicine as a profession, also determined on the wages were paid to the surgeons in the case of successful operations with the statement of penalties in case of failure of the operation, did not find texts on how the surgery was, but it is certain that the surgery was primitive.
