It's been a while since I've had the chance to get on a bus, much less reach a destination sitting down. But normally, when transportation in my city was affordable, I traveled long distances and sometimes found empty seats so I could sit down. Occasionally, it was only natural that the bus would fill up with passengers, and whenever I saw someone holding a baby or an elderly person, I would get up from my seat to offer it to them. One day, I saw an elderly man; he seemed tired, too, and it only took me seconds to offer him my seat. Oh... what happened? Well, the man felt offended and started hurling insults at me, pointing out that he didn't need anyone to give him a seat because he was perfectly capable of taking care of himself. Of course, all the passengers on the bus looked at me, and I suddenly felt like an asshole. Have I done something wrong by trying to help others? I don't know, call me an asshole, but I'll keep doing it.

Hace ya tiempo que no tengo la oportunidad de subir a una guagua y mucho menos llegar a un destino sentado. Pero normalmente cuando funcionaba a precios acequibles el transporte en mi ciudad, me transportaba a distancias largas y a veces alcanzaba asientos vacíos para poder viajar sentado. En ocasiones, era lógico que se fuera llenando de viajeros el ómnibus y siempre que veía a una persona con algún bebé en brazos o una persona mayor, pues me levantaba del asiento para ofrecérselo a ellas. Un día, veo a un señor de edad avanzada, se notaba fatigado además, y demoré solo segundos para brindarle el asiento. Ah... ¿qué sucedió? Pues el señor se sintió ofendido y comenzó a lanzarme improperios acotando que no necesitaba que nadie le diera ningún asiento porque estaba en total capacidad de valerse por sí mismo. Por supuesto, todos los viajeros del ómnibus me miraban y yo me sentí de pronto como un idiota. ¿Habré hecho algo mal al intentar ayudar a los demás? No sé, llámenme idiota, pero seguiré haciéndolo.
