Hello Hive friends! How are you all doing?
My husband went out with his friends. They decided to go to his friends’ fish cage and they caught some fish and my husband brought home a 1-kg of oysters!! I was so excited to cook it.
These oysters are not the same as the Pearl Oysters. Those kinds of oysters are not edible. They are usually not eaten. But these edible oysters, which is locally called “Talaba” in the Philippines can be eaten raw; you just need to put some vinegar and salt on it before you eat it. But for now, I chose to stir-fry it.
First of all, I thoroughly washed all the oysters. After that I steamed the oysters so that it is easier to open each one later. open each shell and take out the muscle inside. You still have to be careful opening each shell because the shells are still quite hard and tough and you might cut your hands – just like I did.
After opening all the shells, I prepared the ingredients and some aromatic mixture such as , onion, garlic, ginger ,salt, ground black pepper and oil. I decided to cook it together with some mussels.
Put the pan on the stove, add some oil and when the oil is hot put all the aromatic mixture. I cooked the aromatic mixture for just 1- 2 minutes, then add the mussels first and after a while can added the oysters. I added salt and ground black pepper to taste.
Just let it sit for 3- 5 minutes and it’s ready to serve! It is best eaten with rice. There you have it! I can fancy call it- Savory Stir-fried Oysters and Mussels!
Eating fresh seafood is good for our health. But of course, it should be eaten in moderation. Oysters are very rich in protein, good source of minerals such as Zinc, Iron and Calcium. The zinc and anti-oxidants can help our body fight infections.
Enjoy and have a happy and healthy life hivers!
