There are a few Levy Clay country licks videos still to do but YouTube has learned that I like short country guitar solo videos and sent me this little gem to learn. I've said it before and I'll say it again "I'm not that into country music" but you really have to listen to this one. It's a song called Jambalaya written in 1952 by country singer/songwriter Hank Williams. The version that this solo is from is a cover by the brother and sister band The Carpenters recorded about 20 years later in 1973.
It's possibly the whitest cheesiest thing ever recorded.
Now I've never quite understood why people post lyrics in a hive blog post. I'm guessing it may be to get the word count up so the post seems bigger (that's what she said). In my case this is purely to see if anyone can understand them. Check them out and have a crack.
Goodbye Joe, me gotta go me oh my oh
Me gotta go pole the pirogue down the bayou
My Yvonne, the sweetest one, me oh my oh
Son of a gun, we'll have big fun on the bayou
Jambalaya, a-crawfish pie and-a file gumbo
'Cause tonight I'm gonna see my ma cher amio
Pick guitar, fill fruit jar and be gay-oh
Son of a gun, we'll have big fun on the bayou.
The Thibodaux the Fontaineaux the place is buzzin'
Kinfolk come to see Yvonne by the dozen
Dress in style and go hog wild me oh my oh
Son of a gun we'll have big fun on the bayou
Jambalaya, a-crawfish pie and-a file gumbo
'Cause tonight I'm gonna see my ma cher amio
Pick guitar, fill fruit jar and be gay-oh
Son of a gun, we'll have big fun on the bayou.
All jokes aside, I love this solo. It has a country twang and fits the chords in the song perfectly.
I hope you enjoy it.
