Nuevos billetes de 2000 CUP y 5000 CUP comienzan a introducirse hoy en Cuba
El Banco Central de Cuba anunció la entrada en circulación de nuevas denominaciones de 2000 y 5000 pesos cubanos (CUP), que entran hoy, 1ro de abril de 2026, comenzando por los billetes de 5000 , sólo en La Habana y extendiéndose gradualmente al resto del país.
Existen varias novedaes, una de ellas es que estos billetes incorporan por primera vez figuras históricas femeninas en el papel moneda cubano:

Notas sobre circulación y seguridad
Según la información oficial, el billete de 5000 CUP comienza a circular primero, mientras que el de 2000 CUP se incorpora de forma progresiva, coexistiendo ambos con el resto del efectivo.
Entre los nuevos elementos de seguridad destaca la flor nacional (la mariposa) con efecto óptico variable, junto a marcas de agua, nuevo tipo de hilo de seguridad y otros elementos. Además, por primera vez se usa la la superficie total del billete, sin márgenes. New 2000 CUP and 5000 CUP banknotes begin circulating today in Cuba
The Central Bank of Cuba announced the introduction of new 2000 and 5000 Cuban peso (CUP) banknotes, which enter circulation today, April 1, 2026. The rollout begins with the 5000 CUP note, initially in Havana, and will gradually expand to the rest of the country.
There are several notable updates. One of the most significant is that, for the first time, female historical figures are featured on Cuban paper currency:

Notes on circulation and security
According to official information, the 5000 CUP banknote will circulate first, while the 2000 CUP note will be introduced progressively. Both will coexist with the rest of the cash currently in use.
Among the new security features is the inclusion of Cuba’s national flower (the white ginger lily) with an optically variable effect, along with watermarks, a new type of security thread, and other elements.
