Hello my dear readers. Today I bring you an interesting geographical phenomenon that seems taken from another dimension. This is Lake Geneva.
Lake Leman is an intramontane lake, which was formed and still exists, thanks to the melting of glaciers in the Swiss Alps.
Lake Geneva, also known as Lake Geneva (from French: lac Léman or lac de Genève), is the largest lake in Western Europe. It constitutes a natural border between France to the south and Switzerland to the north.
Of glacial origin, it is bordered by the Jura Mountains to the west, the French Alps to the south and the Mittelland to the northeast. Although almost the entire southern shore is in French territory, most of the lake belongs to Switzerland. Its banks are dotted with cities and towns, the starting point for boat tours.

I got to know the lake a year ago, when I participated in the International Calcined Clay Conference, held in the City of Lausanne, which is on the northern shore of the lake.
Lausanne is the fifth most populated city in Switzerland after Zurich, Geneva, Basel and Bern. The city is known as the Olympic Capital, as it is home to the International Olympic Committee, as well as the Olympic Sports Museum.
I arrived in Lausanne by train from Zurich, and my impression was great when, upon exiting a tunnel, the majestic lake was revealed before my eyes, with its banks planted with vineyards.

In Geology, lakes are important study environments, they are bodies of water, where different types of sedimentary rocks can be studied or they can be interesting accumulations of mineral resources.
This lake, in particular, is used for recreational and tourist purposes, like almost the entire Swiss territory.
The lake, which has strict rules for its protection, is also exploited as a navigation area for transport.
This area of Switzerland is French-speaking, although obviously with its own accents and dialects.

On the shore of Lausanne, it is possible to enjoy large groves, jetties and small docks that serve as a walk around the lake. It is without a doubt a heavenly place, full of good food and local beers that are a delight to the palate.
For its part, the city of Lausanne is presented as something beautiful, with a very typical architect, the old has been preserved, although it is evident that the city exudes modernity. It has a fully automated metro, as well as impeccable public services.
If I were to give a negative fact about the city, it is that, as is often the case with Switzerland, it is a very expensive city.

Lake Leman has inspired poets, musicians and artists in general for centuries, being one of the most mentioned places in European literature.
If you've made it this far, I hope you liked the place as much as I did, and I hope that one day you can do some geotourism along its shores. I couldn't particularly bathe in its waters, I'm afraid it was too cold for my liking.
See you next time.
