He podido ver que a muchos de ustedes les ha gustado mi publicación sobre Puerto Escondido así que hoy escribiré sobre un lugar igual de especial, les contaré sobre mi visita a Canasí. De mis amigos, yo era la única que nunca había ido así fue que planificamos una salida hacia allá. Nos quedaríamos 3 días y yo me preguntaba ¿Porqué tanto tiempo? Al final entendí que 3 era un número pequeño.
I have seen that many of you liked my post about Puerto Escondido so today I will write about an equally special place, I will tell you about my visit to Canasi. Of my friends, I was the only one who had never been there so we planned a trip there. We would stay 3 days and I wondered why so long? In the end I understood that 3 was a small number.
Ir a Canasí requiere de un viaje parecido al de Puerto Escondido, primero hay que ir a Guanabo y luego tomar un camión hasta un lugar cercano. Llegar a nuestra "base" requiere varios esfuerzos, primero era necesario cruzar un río, con todas las mochilas creía que sería imposible, pero un lugareño muy amable nos ofreció llevar nuestros equipajes en su balsa algo improvisada, nos conmovió tanto el gesto del campesino que entre todos le dejamos una pequeña propina en agradecimiento. De nuevo en tierra nos abrochamos las zapatillas pues había que escalar una pequeña montaña y luego bajarla, caminar varios metros hasta encontrar el lugar perfecto para acampar.
Going to Canasi requires a trip similar to Puerto Escondido, first you have to go to Guanabo and then take a truck to a nearby place. To get to our "base" requires several efforts, first it was necessary to cross a river, with all the backpacks I thought it would be impossible, but a very kind local offered us to carry our luggage on his somewhat improvised raft, we were so moved by the gesture of the peasant that we all left him a small tip in gratitude. Back on land, we buckled our shoes because we had to climb a small mountain and then descend it, walking several meters until we found the perfect place to camp.
Nos habían contado que al igual que Puerto Escondido, Canasí tiene mirador así que ya estaba decidido que era lo primero que haríamos. Así pues, una vez establecidos nos preparamos para el ascenso. En el trayecto pudimos apreciar lo tranquila y hermosa que es la naturaleza, diría que esas caminatas son nuestra parte favorita de cada viaje y en la cima nos esperarían hermosas vistas que valen cada esfuerzo. El paisaje es despampanante, es como ver la selva Amazona desde un helicóptero, apenas puedo expresar la grandeza de ese momento, son cosas que no se explican con palabras, solo se sienten cuando las vives.
We had been told that like Puerto Escondido, Canasi has a lookout point, so it was already decided that this was the first thing we would do. So, once we were settled we prepared ourselves for the ascent. On the way we could appreciate how quiet and beautiful nature is, I would say that these hikes are our favorite part of every trip and at the top beautiful views would be waiting for us that are worth every effort. The scenery is breathtaking, it's like seeing the Amazon rainforest from a helicopter, I can hardly express the greatness of that moment, these are things that can't be explained with words, you only feel them when you live them.
De vuelta abajo empezamos a explorar para ver que opciones teníamos. Hay unas pequeñas playas, algunas tienen piedras y erizos, en otras había oleaje así que pensamos que no sería buena idea bañarnos. Caminamos por la costa, este era buen lugar para pasar el rato con los amigos, ahí vimos el atardecer y el cielo era tan amplio que simplemente querías quedarte mirando.
Back down we started to explore to see what options we had. There are some small beaches, some have stones and sea urchins, in others there were waves so we thought it would not be a good idea to swim. We walked along the coast, this was a good place to hang out with friends, there we watched the sunset and the sky was so wide you just wanted to stare at it.
Al día siguiente nos dividimos en grupos para hacer el almuerzo. Los más fuertes irían por leña, los más hábiles estarían a cargo de cocinar, los menos hábiles iban haciendo tareas como fregar o ayudar y siempre estaban los que no hacían nada. Éramos una laboriosa colmena de abejas enfocadas en el bien común, yo estuve a cargo de freir plátanos, hazaña de la que estoy orgullosa. Después de comer todos estabamos tan satisfechos y cansados que tomamos una siesta en la sombra de las uvas caletas.
The next day we split into groups to make lunch. The strongest would go for firewood, the most skilled would be in charge of cooking, the less skilled would do chores like scrubbing or helping and there were always those who did nothing. We were an industrious hive of bees focused on the common good, I was in charge of frying plantains, a feat of which I am proud. After lunch we were all so satisfied and tired that we took a nap in the shade of the caleta grapes.
En la tarde estabamos llenos de energía y ansiosos de aventura así que fuimos a un lugar no muy lejano. Algunos le llamaban El Caldero otros La Cazuela, su nombre se debía a la forma y el propósito de nuestra visita era tirarnos desde lo alto hacía el agua. Estaba increíble, el mar se veía tan sereno y cristalino que solo querías quedarte nadando. Al igual que en Puerto Escondido subir era complicado pero no imposible y yo lo disfruté al máximo.
In the afternoon we were full of energy and eager for adventure so we went to a place not far away. Some called it El Caldero, others called it La Cazuela, its name was due to its shape and the purpose of our visit was to jump from the top into the water. It was incredible, the sea looked so serene and crystalline that you just wanted to stay there swimming. As in Puerto Escondido, the climb was complicated but not impossible and I enjoyed it to the fullest.
Esa noche fui a un risco cercano, a ver las estrellas. Sabía que me iría al día siguiente, pero quería darle un último vistazo al mar abierto y las montañas que se alzaban. El último día sería recoger y limpiar, no habría tiempo para seguir gozando de las maravillas de ese lugar pero en ese momento, contemplando las nubes iluminadas por la luna, estaba satisfecha. Nunca olvidaré mi visita a Canasí, espero que se repita.
That night I went to a nearby cliff to see the stars. I knew I would be leaving the next day, but I wanted to take one last look at the open ocean and the rising mountains. The last day would be packing up and cleaning up, there would be no time to continue to enjoy the wonders of that place but at that moment, gazing at the moonlit clouds, I was satisfied. I will never forget my visit to Canasi, I hope it will be repeated.
