Este pasado 31 de diciembre todo el mundo estaba de fiesta despidiendo el año. En mi caso estábamos festejando doble, ya que además de despedir el año estábamos celebrando el cumpleaños de mi papá.
This past December 31, everyone was celebrating saying goodbye to the year. In my case we were celebrating double, since in addition to saying goodbye to the year we were celebrating my dad's birthday.
Como casi todos los años mi papá decidió pasar su cumpleaños aquí en Pinar del Río conmigo, pues él vive en La Habana.
Like almost every year, my dad decided to spend his birthday here in Pinar del Río with me, since he lives in Havana.

Desde temprano mi tía y yo nos pusimos a limpiar la casa y a preparar la ensalada fría, que es un platillo que no puede faltar en las celebraciones de fin de año de los cubanos. Tuvimos música puesta el día entero y mi papá estuvo toda la tarde en casa de mi mamá y mi padrastro haciendo cuentos y tomando caldosa, que es un potaje con viandas y carne.
Early in the morning, my aunt and I began to clean the house and prepare the cold salad, which is a dish that cannot be missing in the Cuban New Year's Eve celebrations. We played music all day and my dad spent the whole afternoon at my mom's and stepfather's house telling stories and drinking what we call "caldosa", which is a stew with root vegetables and meat.
Ya la noche disfrutamos de una linda cena en familia, estábamos mi abuela, mi tía, mi primo con su novia, mi esposo y yo y mi papá se incorporó más tarde en la noche. La cena quedó muy deliciosa, una típica comida cubana qué consistía en arroz congrí, carne con cebolla, yuca y ensalada de tomate, lechuga y pimiento.
That night we enjoyed a nice family dinner, we were my grandmother, my aunt, my cousin with his girlfriend, my husband and I, and my dad joined later at night. Dinner was very delicious, a typical Cuban meal that consisted of congrí rice, meat with onion, cassava, and tomato, lettuce, and pepper salad.
Después de la cena fuimos para la sala, que se convirtió en nuestra pista de baile. Más tarde llegó mi papá, mi hermano con su novia y se unieron otros amigos y vecinos del barrio.
After dinner we went to the living room, which became our dance floor. Later my father arrived, my brother with his girlfriend and other friends and neighbors from the neighborhood joined us.

Sacamos la mesa para el portal y nos pusimos a jugar dominó. Mientras unos jugaban, los demás esperando su turno se ponían a bailar en la sala. Así estuvimos toda la noche, divirtiéndonos y pasándola bien.
We took out the table for the portal and we began to play dominoes. While some played, the others, waiting for their turn, began to dance in the living room. We stayed like that all night, having fun and having a good time.
A las 12 de la noche todos nos felicitamos por el nuevo año y varios vecinos echaron un cubo de agua para la calle, ya que es una de nuestras tradiciones, es como si se botara todo lo malo para afuera esperando recibir muchas bendiciones en el año nuevo. También quemaron un muñeco en la calle en representación del año viejo y todo lo que se va con él, qué es otra costumbre en este día y luego sentimos una bulla que resultó ser varias personas que venían subiendo por la calle con una conga. Algunos tocando tambor y los demás bailando al ritmo de la música. Eran vecinos de unas cuadras cercanas y en el camino muchos se le fueron uniendo.
At 12 at night we all congratulate each other for the new year and several neighbors poured a bucket of water into the street, since it is one of our traditions, it is as if all the bad things were thrown away hoping to receive many blessings in the new year. They also burned a doll in the street representing the old year and everything that goes with it, which is another custom on this day and then we heard a noise that turned out to be several people coming up the street with a conga. Some playing drums and others dancing to the rhythm of the music. They were neighbors of a few blocks nearby and many joined them along the way.

En fin, fue un fin de año muy divertido, la pasamos muy bien en familia y amigos, bailando y jugando dominó, despidiendo el año con mucho gozo y alegría, para de igual manera recibir este 2023. Espero que la hayan pasado igual de bien con sus familias y que este año les vaya de maravilla.
