Por estos días en Cuba el calor no da tregua a nadie y tenemos que buscar muchas opciones para lidiar con él. Verán, en mi casa tenemos una especie de piscina bastante rústica, que más bien usamos para almacenar agua que nos sirve para las labores de la casa. Solo de vez en cuando, en alguna celebración especial o de cumpleaños invitamos a algunos amigos y nos divertimos un poco en el agua.
La razón por la que no la usamos tan a menudo para bañarnos en ella es que a veces pasan muchos días sin venir el agua y no podemos desperdiciarla. Pero en estos días de tanto calor le sugerí a mi tía que hiciaramos tipo una fiesta para poder usar la piscina, pues sería muy divertido y refrescante. Pues así lo hicimos, y sin motivo aparente alguno, solo el de mitigar el calor, hicimos una pequeña fiesta, dónde invitamos a algunos familiares y amigos a pasar una tarde divertida y a refrescarse un poco en la piscina.
These days in Cuba the heat does not give truce to anyone and we have to look for many options to deal with it. You see, in my house we have a kind of rustic pool, which we use to store water that we use for house chores. Only once in a while, in some special or birthday celebration we invite some friends and we have some fun in the water.
The reason why we don't use it so often to bathe in it is that sometimes many days go by without water and we can't waste it. But in these hot days I suggested my aunt that we should have a kind of party so we could use the pool, because it would be so much fun and refreshing. So we did, and for no apparent reason, just to mitigate the heat, we had a little party, where we invited some family and friends to spend a fun afternoon and cool off a little in the pool.
La piscina se encuentra en el patio de la casa y aunque es pequeña cumple su propósito muy bien. Un poco pasado el mediodía, mi esposo y yo fuimos los primeros valientes en entrar y probar lo fría que estaba el agua. Aunque el calor es fuerte, el cuerpo necesita tiempo para ajustarse a la temperatura fría del agua, pues la piscina se encuentra a la sombra de una mata de mango. Después de 20 minutos, según yo, y de a poquito me sumergí completamente en el agua hasta que empezó a sentirse bastante refrescante. Mi esposo, al contrario, optó por la opción rápida y entró al agua de una vez.
The pool is located in the patio of the house and although it is small it serves its purpose very well. A little past noon, my husband and I were the first brave enough to enter and test how cold the water was. Although the heat is strong, the body needs time to adjust to the cold water temperature, as the pool is in the shade of a mango tree. After 20 minutes, according to me, and a little at a time, I submerged myself completely in the water until it started to feel quite refreshing. My husband, on the other hand, opted for the quick option and entered the water all at once.
Mi mamá no pudo bañarse ese día porque tenía catarro, pero al poco rato mi tía se nos unió y luego fueron llegando los invitados. Vino la familia de mi esposo: su mamá, padrastro y hermanas. Mi cuñada menor Sabrina fue la primera en entrar, cómo todo niño, muy emocionada por bañarse en una piscina. Luego se unió mi otra cuñada Lismel y el padrastro de mi esposo. Mi suegra iba grabando todo con el celular, hasta que un poco más tarde, derrotada por el calor, decidió darle una oportunidad a la piscina casera. La novia de mi primo Víctor y un vecino también se nos unieron más tarde.
My mom couldn't take a bath that day because she had a cold, but soon my aunt joined us and then the guests arrived. My husband's family came: his mother, stepfather and sisters. My youngest sister-in-law Sabrina was the first to enter, like every child, very excited to swim in a pool. Then my other sister-in-law Lismel and my husband's stepfather joined in. My mother-in-law was recording everything with her cell phone, until a little later, defeated by the heat, she decided to give the home pool a try. My cousin Victor's girlfriend and a neighbor also joined us later.
Al poco rato llegaron algunas amigas de mi mamá, que aunque no se bañaron en la piscina disfrutaron del vino, de la música y del dominó, cosas que, definitivamente, no puedan faltar en una fiesta cubana 😌.
La parte del dominó es mi preferida, pues tengo una relación especial con este juego de mesa, ya que al principio no sabía jugarlo bien, cómo se dice en buen cubano, jugaba al "bota gorda" y no entendía eso de matar mi propia salida y otras cosas así. Pero de tanta práctica que he tenido he aprendido a jugarlo mejor y cada vez que hay alguna fiesta nos ponemos a jugar y mi chip competitivo se enciende 😅.
Shortly after, some of my mom's friends arrived, who even though they didn't swim in the pool enjoyed the wine, music and dominoes, things that definitely can't be missing in a Cuban party 😌.
The dominoes part is my favorite, because I have a special relationship with this game, since at the beginning I didn't know how to play it well, as they say in good Cuban, I played "bota gorda" and I didn't understand that thing about killing my own way out and other things like that. But from so much practice I've had I've learned to play it better and every time there's a party we play and my competitive chip is turned on 😅.
Mi cuñadita Sabrina se divertía cantidad jugando con un jarro, se echaba agua encima y también a los que hubiera alrededor 😄.
Pues una tarde de domingo que iba a ser como cualquier otra, se convirtió en una tarde muy divertida para compartir con familia y amigos, diversión muy sana que planeamos repetir ya que no cuesta nada hacer este tipo de actividad y más si tenemos la piscina en casa 😁👌.
My little sister-in-law Sabrina had a lot of fun playing with a pitcher, she poured water on herself and everyone around 😄.
Well, a Sunday afternoon that was going to be like any other, turned into a very fun afternoon to share with family and friends, very healthy fun that we plan to repeat since it costs nothing to do this kind of activity and even more if we have the pool at home 😁👌.
