Dice Gardel, el famoso cantante de tangos, que veinte años no es nada, yo no lo creo, es una buena porción de la vida. Hace más de veinte años, para ser exactos veintitrés que frecuento de lunes a sábado el mismo lugar, todos los meses del año, excepto en las vacaciones del periodo estival. Amigos, desde el año 2000 llegué a la Universidad de Pinar del Río Hermanos Saiz Montes de Oca con el objetivo de cursar la carrera Licenciatura en Estudios Socioculturales y concluidos mis estudios, me quedé allí para ejercer como profesora, hasta la fecha sigo en el mismo lugar.
Puede sonar aburrido mi relato, pero les cuento que ahí he vivido grandes emociones, allí conocí mi mejor amiga Gretel Báez Padrón, a la que aprecio mucho. Ahí también personas muy especiales como Yahima Gómez, Yurita, Lisbert, Olga. Luego Gilma, Amelia. Sin dejar de mencionar maravillosos profesionales que contribuyeron a mi formación. He conocido muchas personas, participado en varios eventos académicos, culturales o sociales y he tenido cientos de alumnos cada uno con su sello especial.

My story may sound boring, but I tell you that there I have lived great emotions, there I met my best friend Gretel Baez Padron, whom I appreciate very much. There I also met very special people like Yahima Gómez, Yurita, Lisbert, Olga. Then Gilma, Amelia. Not to mention wonderful professionals who contributed to my formation. I have met many people, participated in various academic, cultural or social events and I have had hundreds of students, each with their own special stamp.
Desde aquí fui por primera vez a un campismo con mis compañeros de estudios. Aprendí a nadar, bueno casi. Visité los municipios de mi provincia y también varias universidades de mi país. Fue en este lugar donde me hice independiente y responsable de mis actos. De manera tal que la Universidad de Pinar del Río tiene un papel fundamental en mi vida y es justo entonces hablar de ella en hive. El campus universitario es un lugar propicio para que muchas personas disfruten de Hive. Sería bueno presentar la blockchain con todo su ecosistema de aplicaciones a estudiantes y profesores que se puedan interesar en la misma.

Este edificio fue en la etapa de la historia de Cuba conocida como la neocolonia, el antiguo Instituto de Segunda Enseñanza en la provincia, donde estudiaron figuras de gran relevancia en la historia del país como Julio Antonio Mella, Antonio Guiteras Holmes, Sergio y Luis Saiz Montes de Oca entre otras personalidades de la cultura y la política de la provincia y el país.
Es un edificio muy atractivo y del que guardo gratos recuerdos. Aquí hay una biblioteca con libros antiguos con enciclopedias gigantes y a todo color, también novelas y otras obras de la literatura universal.

Disfruté mucho la lectura de esos libros en las sillas gigantes al estilo Luis XV y que son parte del patrimonio de la Universidad. Caminar por los pasillos espaciosos y conversar con los colegas de estudio y de vez en cuando bailar en la plaza grande del anfiteatro en el interior del edificio fue maravilloso. La edificación cuenta con plazas, bustos de personalidades importantes como el pedagogo pinareño Leandro González Alcorta, el mártir Julio Antonio Mella. Salas con valiosa documentación y mobiliario e instrumentos de laboratorio que aún se encuentran en uso, pero que son patrimonio de la localidad.
I really enjoyed reading those books in the giant Louis XV style chairs that are part of the University's heritage. Walking through the spacious corridors and chatting with fellow students and occasionally dancing in the large square of the amphitheater inside the building was wonderful. The building has squares, busts of important personalities such as the Pinar del Rio pedagogue Leandro Gonzalez Alcorta, the martyr Julio Antonio Mella. En su interior se encuentran las oficinas del Rector de la Universidad, así como las de Vicerrectores y otros funcionarios. Está también la Sala o Museo de historia con pertenencias únicas de los patriotas involucrados en las diferentes luchas revolucionarias en las que se implicaron los pinareños. Los laboratorios donde vi por primera vez una computadora y aprendí a usarla y donde por primera vez me conecté a internet en el lejano ya año 2000. Allí las canchas para practicar deportes, espaciosas y con una arboleda de mangos deliciosos. Con bancos para respirar aire puro, conversar o leer.
A este primer edificio se le suman otros de manera contigua, pero que se nota que es un estilo de construcción completamente diferente, carentes de altos ventanales o de columnas redondas y amplios portales como el primero, predominando el uso del prefabricado. Se destaca por el uso de celosías, varias escaleras para acceder por diferentes puntos. Cuatro plantas donde se distribuyen las habitaciones donde viven los estudiantes universitarios.
Esta construcción en sí se compone por seis edificios conectados por pasillos.

Lo más representativo de esta construcción lo constituye el Monumento a los Hermanos Saiz construido el 3 de septiembre de 1992 frente al edificio docente. Es el símbolo de los estudios universitarios en la provincia más occidental de Cuba.

Es bueno conocer que la Universidad de Pinar del Río tiene en su seno varios centros de estudios que se destacan en el ámbito investigativo con resultados internacionales, en el ámbito de la economía, las ciencias forestales, las ciencias pedagógicas, el medioambiente, desarrollo comunitario.
This work is the work of Enrique Avila Gonzalez and represents at its base an open book with two columns in the shape of rifles and on them the faces of Sergio and Luis, two young students who died in the struggle for improvements for the youth of their time. There every year the students take pictures of themselves on the occasion of their graduation. En el área de extensión universitaria es importante el desarrollo del movimiento de artistas aficionados, galas, peñas y otras actividades culturales. En la universidad he conocido personas maravillosas. Aquí vi venir de visita al Doctor Eusebio Leal, una personalidad importantísima de la cultura cubana, vi a Carilda Oliver Labra, poetiza matancera de renombre internacional. A Lorenzo Suárez, Aldo Martínez Malo, Raúl Eguren personalidades de la cultura del país. Aquí he tenido un crecimiento personal y profesional, me gradué de Máster en Desarrollo Social y continuo el estudio de mi doctorado.

Acá traigo a cada rato a mi hijo para que respire del espíritu universitario y aspire a ser profesional también. He arrollado con la conga universitaria por las calles de la ciudad para celebrar cuando ha sido acreditada de excelencia. Adoro compartir experiencias con los alumnos, por lo que estaré por acá un tiempo más. Espero les haya gustado el paseo por la universidad que tanto quiero.
I bring my son here all the time so that he can breathe the university spirit and aspire to be a professional too.
