Hey, dear insect and macro lovers,

When I was strolling through the forest the other day on my walk, I discovered once again burying beetles. That was only the second time in over a year. So far I could find two different types of these beetles.
Very fascinating is its symbiosis with mites. Flies are often the first on scavengers the cadavers of dead animals and lay their eggs there quickly. The mites eat those fly eggs and thus ensure that the Burying Beetles have a maggot-free food source for themselves and their later larvae.

Als ich letztens auf meiner Gassirunde durch den Wald schlenderte habe ich wieder einmal Totengräberkäfer entdeckt. Das war bis jetzt erst das zweite Mal in über einem Jahr. Bis jetzt konnte ich zwei verschiedene Arten dieser Käfer finden.
Sehr faszinierend ist seine Symbiose mit Milben. Fliegen sind oft vor den Totengräber Käfern an den Kadavern von toten Tieren und legen dort auch schnell ihre Fliegeneier ab. Die Milben fressen diese Fliegeneier und sorgen so dafür, dass die Totengräber Käfer eine madenfreie Nahrungsquelle für sich und ihre späteren Larven haben.
