Scheckenfalter ■ Fritillary
(Melitaea britomartis-aurelia-athalia)
Jedes Jahr auf ein Neues, versuche ich diese Arten von einander zu trennen. Obwohl ich alle optischen Unterscheidungsmerkmale überprüft habe, ist die Bestimmung anhand von Fotos nicht zweifelsfrei möglich. Um Klarheit zu bekommen, wäre eine Genitaluntersuchung die einzige Möglichkeit. Das ist dann aber nichts für mich. So weit geht mein Forscherdrang dann doch nicht. Somit bleibt es bei einem Artenkomplex aus den drei obig genannten Arten.
Every year a new one, I try to separate these types from each other. Although I have checked all optical distinguishing features, the determination by means of photos is not possible without any doubt. To get clarity, a genital examination would be the only possibility. But then that is not for me. My urge to research does not go that far after all. Thus it remains with a species complex from the three species mentioned above.

Beide Falter habe ich zusammen am Ansitz entdeckt. Mit einem Erdspieß wurde von mir die Pflanze gegen Wind gesichert. Es war wieder einmal ein unendliches Geduldsspiel. Stark böiger Wind erforderte eine permanente Neuausrichtung zum Motiv. Letztendlich hat sich meine Geduld aber ausgezahlt. Für einen Makrofotografen ist Wind der größte Feind.
I discovered both moths together at the hide. With an earth spike I secured the plant against wind. It was once again a never ending game of patience. Strong gusty wind required a permanent reorientation to the subject. But in the end my patience paid off. For a macro photographer wind is the biggest enemy.

Ganz kurz, kam am Abend auch noch einmal die Sonne durch die Wolkendecke. Ohne den Wind wäre an diesem Abend sicher mehr möglich gewesen. Mit meinem Bild von den beiden Scheckenfaltern bin ich mehr als zufrieden. Zwei Falter an einem Ansitz, findet man nicht oft.
Very briefly, in the evening the sun came through the cloud cover once again. Without the wind more would have been possible this evening. I am more than satisfied with my picture of the two pinto butterflies. Two butterflies on a hide, one does not find often.
