This morning when I got home from doing some shopping I noticed this beautiful yellow bumblebee, and for some reason it could not take a flight to get to its lair, at the time it did not occur to me to take a picture because I had my hands full with the things I was carrying and also the camera was in my room, so while I was looking for it it was possible that this little friend had already left. When I went back to the car to look for some things that I had left behind, I realized that this little giant was still among the lettuce leaves that we put on the Amazon turtles to feed, which led me to conclude that he could not fly for some reason that I honestly do not know.
At first glance I saw him well, even with enough energy, this cigarron or woodpecker bumblebee for some reason had left his lair which is in the lemon tree that is located just above where he was, then I went for a plastic cup to try to grab him and take him home, and to my surprise, he did not want to enter, On the contrary, what he did was to move away from the entrance and climb up one of the branches, where I took the opportunity to take other pictures, I could not take better shots because the place was quite uncomfortable for it, and although I know that these are not aggressive and as you can see there is no sting, I'm not going to lie because I was a little scared because I did not know what reaction this little one would have.
This yellow bumblebee is definitely of the Xylocopa species, as it is devoid of hairs on its abdomen as you can see in the following photographs, and rather a shiny or glossy abdomen is seen, of course with such striking colors, typical of bees, let's say that this is the big difference between this species and the Bombus species of bumblebees, which is very similar in color and size to the Xylocopa.
By the color of this friend and the size of the eyes, he had in front of him a male woodpecker bumblebee, there are approximately 500 species of Xylocopas or woodpecker bumblebees, which vary mostly in color and geographical area in which they can be found. This one, in particular, is very similar to the Xylocopa Augusti, however, the Augusti is smaller in size and has more hairs than this one I found in my garden.
I believe that the female of the relationship must have thrown him out of the den and that is why he did not want to enter because when I checked if he was in the hole of the tree, he was very attentive and vigilant at the entrance of the same, unfortunately there is not much more information about the behavior of these small giants, more that they are solitary bumblebees, which live in pairs while they have their young, and that very rarely behave like bees that are rather gregarious.

Esta mañana al llegar a casa de hacer algunas compras me percate de este hermoso abejorro amarillo, y que por alguna razón no podía alzar el vuelo para llegar a su guarida, al momento no se me ocurrió tomarle alguna fotografía pues tenía las manos llenas con las cosas que traía y además la cámara estaba en mi habitación, así que mientras la buscaba era posible que ya se habría ido este amiguito. Cuando volví al carro a buscar algunas cosas que se me habían quedado, me di cuenta de que este pequeño gigante estaba aún entre las hojas de lechuga que le colocamos a las tortugas del amazonas para que se alimenten, lo cual me llevo a concluir que no podía volar por algún motivo que sinceramente desconozco.
A simple vista lo veía bien, incluso con bastante energía, este cigarrón o abejorro carpintero por alguna razón había salido de su guarida que está en el limonero que se encuentra justo encima de donde se encontraba, entonces fui por un vaso plástico para tratar de agarrarlo y llevarlo a su casa, y para mi sorpresa no quiso entrar, por el contrario lo que hizo fue alejarse de la entrada y trepar por una de las ramas, en donde aproveche de hacerle otras fotografías, no pude hacer mejores tomas pues el lugar era bastante incómodo para ello, y aunque sé que estos no son agresivos y como se fijan no tiene aguijón, no les voy a mentir pues yo estaba algo asustada pues no sabía que reacción tendría este pequeño.
Este abejorro amarillo es definitivamente de la especie Xylocopa, pues esta desprovisto de vellos en su abdomen como pueden observar en las siguientes fotografías, y más bien se ve un abdomen brillante o lustroso, claro está con esos colores tan llamativos, típico de las abejas, digamos que esta es la gran diferencia entre esta especie y la especie de abejorros Bombus, que es muy similar en color y tamaño a la Xylocopa.
Por el color de este amigo y el tamaño de los ojos, tenía en frente un abejorro carpintero macho, hay aproximadamente 500 especies de Xylocopas o abejorros carpinteros, que varían más que todo en color y zona geográfica en la que se puedan encontrar. Esta en específico se asemeja mucho a la Xylocopa Augusti, sin embargo, la augusti, es de menor tamaño y posee más vellosidad que esta que encontré en mi jardín.
Yo creo que la hembra de la relación lo ha de haber echado de la guarida y por eso no quería entrar, pues cuando me fije si estaba en el agujero del árbol, estaba muy atenta y vigilante en la entrada de la misma, lamentablemente no hay mucha más información al respecto del comportamiento de estos pequeños gigantes, más que son abejorros solitarios, que viven en pareja mientras tienen a sus crías, y que muy pocas veces se comportan como las abejas que son más bien gregarias.
