Žilogriz (Capnodis tenebrionis) - Wood chipper
I hope it's a good English translation.
When I found this "beetle" on a tree, I thought, what a cool big beetle, I'll take a picture of it now, it'll be great for a post.
But I couldn't rest, I had to investigate it.
I don't know if I would feel better if I hadn't done my research. This little guy is actually a real pest. Not everyone will agree with me, but me as a gardener and him as a tree lover are "mortal enemies," I'm kidding a little.
What I learned about it is the following Žilogriz-Wood chipper (Capnodis tenebrionis) is a harmful insect that is usually found in the Mediterranean region, but now, due to climate change, it is appearing in our region in greater numbers. Plum and sour cherry plantations in southern Serbia are most affected, although they are also found in certain numbers on Fruška Gora.
And only the Danube and a little forest separate me from Fruska Gora. There is no special protection. Chemicals have no effect because it lives in wood. Its larvae cause the biggest problem and bore into the wood from the inside. And of course, I don't think I'd use a ton of chemicals to spray everything alive around me. There are some preventive measures. And removal measures.
The tree I photographed it on seems suspicious to me. So as a preventive measure, I'll remove that tree, anyway, the plan was to replace it with another one.How scary it seemed to me at first when I found out how dangerous the "little one" was. However, I found a solution where neither he, nor I, nor all living things around us would be poisoned.
Although we are enemies, we must find a way for such coexistence.
