I found a colony of miner bees.
Look at this cute little critter digging a hole.
This is one of the many species of miner bees out there. I have no idea what specific specie this one is as there are hundreds of different miner bees out there.
This one appears to be waving hello to me. They were all very busy digging away and buzzing around.
This one was starting a hole from scratch, seems the wet soil is perfect here for them to build their colony.
They were also getting busy in other ways as well. I suspect they are preparing for winter and the female bee will lay her eggs and hibernate all winter then emerge with new bees in spring.
Here is another pair on the side of the soil. I'll have to see how many emerge next spring.
These miner bees are very docile and friendly. They rarely sting this one even landed on me and seemed to be using its tongue to see what my finger tasted like, maybe its looking for salt from my sweat or something like that...
Now for a random cicada shell I found in perfect condition. These are fun to sneak onto people's clothes when they aren't looking.
