The Broncos have come off of a rather disappointing season in 2022. Star QB Russell Wilson was supposed to come and save the day but Russell instead had his worst season in eleven years as a pro.
Now in 2023 many people, including myself, are starting to wonder if Russ's best years are behind him. In 2023 Russ had career lows in touchdown passes and completion percentage. He was also sacked the most times in his career. Russ has had a great NFL career and there's a very high chance that he becomes a Hall of Famer down the road, but when it comes to here and now, there's a lot of pressure on Russ.
The Broncos drafted Oklahoma receiver Marvin Mims in the second round to try and help Russ out with additional options to throw to.
The Broncos did make a nice hire though by bringing in decorated and respected Sean Payton to be the team's head coach. Payton is well known for bringing a Super Bowl to the New Orleans Saints and overall just transforming that franchise into a winning culture.
The defense in general was strong in Denver and was the lone bright spot on the team in 2022. The defense ranked top fifteen in points allowed and top seven in yards allowed in 2022. The Broncos also drafted three more players on defense in an attempt to solidify their strength.
If Russ can bounce back and play more like the old Russ, and if Sean Payton can coach his butt off, the Broncos could maybe compete well in 2023.
The Broncos have had only a single winning season since winning the Super Bowl in the 2015/16 season. They have not made the playoffs since that season. The Broncos fanbase enjoyed some great years since John Elway and then Peyton Manning's short but sweet time as a Bronco. They want to see this thing get turned around in a big way!
