The Sixers handled business like most imagined they would down in the nation's capital. Paul George looked excellent as he dropped 39 points on the Wizards. He's looked better than I anticipated he would since returning from suspension. Overall the team was sharp on offense as they put up 153 points without Joel Embiid. Tyrese Maxey and V.J. Edgecombe combined for 51 points and 19 assists as well.
Wednesday's victory was a nice bounce back after their lackluster performance over the Heat the game prior. The Sixers are officially back in a genuine playoff position as of now with a solid 42-34 record! The seventh seed Raptors are also 42-34. The Sixers and Raptors split their season series 2-2 but the Sixers hold a significantly better record in the Atlantic Division, so it seems that that is the reason the Sixers are placed above them. The Sixers have mild cushion over the eighth seed Hornets and ninth seed Magic, and the Sixers own the tiebreaker over both of those teams as well due to winning the season series against them both. The tenth seed Heat own the tiebreaker over the Sixers but the Heat have a 40-37 record which isn't a huge advantage but with only so many games left, it's not bad.
Tonight's game against the Timberwolves is big for obvious reasons, every win is like gold right now. The Sixers Big Three are all playing. Soon I want to call it the Big Four to include Edgecombe. But anyway it should be a fun one with star guard Anthony Edwards also playing. Love to see everyone out there competing. From a sports history perspective it's just great.
Tonight's contest is the first of a back to back as well for the Sixers, so it won't be easy as the dominant Pistons come to town less than 24 hours after this game concludes.
It's getting intense down the stretch!
