Ion Cuțelaba vs Johnny Walker has a high chance of being a fight of the night at UFC279. It's a fight between two pretty high energy, former hype trains that have had there fair share of losses in recent history. Still, they both are fan favorites and almost always entertain, actively looking for the finish in every fight they're in.
Not green-dude is Walker, Cuțelaba is the green dude.
Both fighters have pretty entertaining traits about them out of the cage to couple with their entertaining styles in the cage.
Johnny Walker is somehow still ranked despite losing four out of his last five, goes to show what type of talent Walker's faced. Walker only has losses vs light heavyweight studs like Corey Anderson, Nikita Krylov, Thiago Santos, and Jamahal Hill. Early on in his career, Walker had a more sporadic, explosive type of fighting and striking style and it earned him some spectacular knockouts. In more recent years, it seems he's been less wild and more patient, but now it seems to be costing him fights.
Ion Cuțelaba has been going through his own challenges. Since 2019, Cuțelaba is 2-4-1 in the UFC. But like Walker, Cuțelaba has only lost to beasts like Glover Texeira, Magomed Ankalaev (lost to him twice), and veteran Ryan Spann. I think Cuțelaba is the more talented fighter as a whole, and significantly more well rounded.
As long as Ion doesn't fight with low IQ and stays focused, I think Ion has this one by decision.
