For the first time ever, star QBs Patrick Mahomes and Kyler Murray will face off in an NFL game, this should be a pretty fun matchup! Both of these QB's are very much in their prime and NFL fans will surely look back at this game for years to come.
But the game is not just played by two quarterbacks.
For the Chiefs, they will have to figure out how to play without superstar speed demon Tyreek Hill, who took his talents to Miami. The Chiefs have, at least on paper, done a pretty decent job at patching up the roster with Hill's absence. The Chiefs added two quality proven receivers in JuJu Smith-Schuster and Marquez Valdes-Scantling, as well as drafting Skyy Moore in the second round of this past NFL draft.
Plus, the Chiefs still have familiar faces to throw the ball to like top tight end Travis Kelce and decent receiver Mecole Hardman.
Defensively, the Chiefs added some solid young talent via the draft in cornerback Trent McDuffie and defensive end George Karlaftis. Kansas City's defense has been ok-ish in recent years, but sometimes a bit inconsistent, hopefully these two can help.
For the Cardinals, they were the team to beat for a big chunk of the season in 2021. They looked scary good until about December when they fell off a cliff. Kyler Murray, DeAndre Hopkins both missed time with injuries which obviously didn't help matters.
The Cards lost stud defensive end Chandler Jones this past off season and while they still have J.J. Watt, the dude is ancient and once again before the season starts, he's already dinged up. Dude is made of glass at this point.
QB Kyler Murray got paid this off-season but he basically had to throw a hissy fit to get the money. In general, the dude seems to have a ginormous ego, and personally, I just think the guy is a little too small to have an extended elite career as a quarterback. He has a good arm, but I don't think his football IQ is even that high. I am simply not too high on Kyler if I'm being honest.
Since it's week one and teams are both healthy and fresh, this could be a close game. But I just think the Chiefs have the better roster and quarterback. Chiefs win 30-17.
How do you foresee this game playing out?
