Might be surprising to some, but I have Miami Dolphins' QB Tua Tagovailoa coming in at number 23 for my 2023 NFL QB rankings.
Tua is a pretty famous guy I'd say thanks to his great college career at the famous University of Alabama and then becoming a top five draft pick by the Dolphins in 2020.
Tua has had success in the league, and I think he's a quality player overall. He's 21-13 as a starter which is not bad. He is solid from the pocket and seems to run an offense pretty smooth for the most part.
The not-as-good side of Tua is his rather sizeable injury history and he's not even really a super mobile player, definitely not a scrambler or anything. Tua's perhaps above average in his accuracy but otherwise he's elite nowhere else. Also, Tua's small stature in general is not horrible, but not ideal.
Tua is a capable player, but essentially he is a similar QB to Case Keenum. That's not even an insult really. I believe it's possible to achieve greatness with Case or Tua but the chances are slim and circumstances really have got to be very ideal.
Tua started off 2022 strong but his production declined slowly due to several concussions.
Despite that, last season Tua had career highs in the following categories: Wins as a starter, passing touchdowns, passing yards, and QB rating.
If Tua can stay healthy and maintain that high level of play through seventeen games, then perhaps I may have to place him higher in the ranks next season.
