Tonight's UFC 272 is set to take place in the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. This event should be good! This is the first event I will be able to watch at home in awhile. I'm looking forward to it. All the while helping my son build his legos.
Sprinkled in the early fights, there are some recognizable names like Tim Elliott and Brian Kelleher. Quality vets with some juice left.
In the prelims, notable fighters like Marina Rodriguez and Jalin Turner are set to further their careers this evening.
But tonight's main card is where the fun REALLY begins. It will be a great final five fights.
SERGHEI SPIVAC vs GREG HARDY - Heavyweights
Spivac is a young, game heavyweight with some quality wins over guys like Tai Tuivasa and Alexey Oleynik.
Greg Hardy is a former top level NFL American Football player who has made a pretty decent transition to MMA.
Should be a good heavyweight slugfest. Good matchup
KEVIN HOLLAND vs ALEX OLIVEIRA - Welterweights
Alex Oliveira is a high level, always competitive UFC veteran who is wild enough and skilled enough to perhaps beat anyone on a good night.
Kevin Holland is a skilled fan favorite for his fighting style and hilarious, charismatic personality. He's been fighting at middleweight for years but tonight he finally makes his highly awaited welterweight debut. Perhaps he can be much more competitive in the lighter weightclass.
EDSON BARBOZA vs BRYCE MITCHELL
This might be the fight I'm looking forward to second most other than the main event.
Edson Barboza was flirting with a lightweight UFC Championship for many years, but made the somewhat surprising move to the lighter featherweight division a few years ago with decent results. Barboza is a fan favorite and has been in the UFC since 2010! He's an explosive highly skilled striker.
One of my favorite young up and coming fighters is Bryce Mitchell. Mitchell is a relatable funny guy out of the octagon and a deadly submission and grappling specialist in the octagon. He is tricky on the feet sometimes, but is much more in his comfort zone when the fight is on the floor. He can do ALL the submissions and is ALWAYS threatening to break a limb or put someone in pain or put them to sleep.
Mitchell is hilarious and has been on some funny podcasts and he's into conspiracy and is a proud southern dude. Just a funny guy. I look forward to seeing him hopefully succeed. He is undefeated in the UFC and a win over a name like Barboza would be big for Mitchell.
RAFAEL DOS ANJOS vs RENATO MOICANO - Catchweight, 160 Pounds
This is a fun matchup between a former champion and future Hall of Famer RDA and an up and coming prospect in Moicano. Moicano has fought as low as 145 pounds, while RDA has been a competitive 170 pounder. It's always interesting to see weight class matchups like this. Moicano is the taller fighter though. This will be a tough fight between two Brazilians!
In the main event, former friends turned enemies, Colby Covington and Jorge Masvidal will have a great battle at Welterweight
A part of me wonders if this beef is fake, but if it is I don't even care LOL. These two men seem to HATE each other and I'm all here for it. Not every time I am. But every once in awhile, it's fun, especially if the beef seems legit. For the most part, this beef seems pretty real.
These two guys have fought for the title and both have lost to the champion Kamaru Usman, twice. This fight will perhaps establish who the true number two is. Both Masvidal and Covington are well rounded but Masvidal is the natural striker and Covington is the natural wrestler.
These two were formerly very close friends and now, they're not. For a lot of reasons.
Both these guys are outspoken trash talkers. Both are Republican and Trump supporters. This fight just feels like a good old fashioned American fist fight.
The drama will be electric when they both enter the cage. This fight is going to be violent one way or another.
LET'S GO!!!!
Joe Rogan is supposed to be back commentating after the insane media tried to cancel him. That will be nice!!!
