This is the time of year when you never know if you are going to have a softball game to watch. With Spring rains and late spring snowstorms, there is always the chance that games are going to get cancelled or postponed. My wife and I got lucky this past weekend when we drove down to Ohio to watch our niece play.
It was a beautiful evening for softball with just a slight chill in the air and a not too hot sun bearing down on us from behind.
Unfortunately, the game didn't quite go the way we were hoping, but the team fought hard and most importantly, my niece continued her streak of amazing performances.
It has been really awesome watching her grow as a player. She is also blooming into quite the leader on her team. As a Sophomore in high school she is already one of the captains on her team. There isn't much that gets past her at the short stop position.
I am really looking forward to her playing some summer ball. She is now part of a travel team that has the potential to win a lot of games this summer. I think we can all agree things are always more fun when you are winning.
Sadly, I don't think that is going to be the case for her high school team this year. They did win a game the other day, but it was more of a surprise than anything.
My other niece is still finding her way on her college team. As a freshman, it puts you at the bottom of the ladder. She has to work her way up and find where she fits in. It also makes it hard that she is a pitcher and utility player. She has to practice twice as hard as all the other players.
So far she has been putting in a lot of work but hasn't been getting a ton of time on the field. I know that will change in time.
We were supposed to watch her play a non-conference game down the road from our house yesterday, but it got cancelled due to some massive thunderstorms rolling through the area.
We were actually under a tornado watch most of the day.
She should be coming back up this way in a couple of months to play a conference game against another college in the area. You better believe we will be there to cheer her on!
I look forward to throwing out some updates on how they are doing this year. Hopefully you stick with me!
