Day two of the tournament in Denver Colorado put us at a different venue. This complex was much smaller than the one the day before, but it was a bit further outside of the Denver Metro area in Arvada, Colorado. Looking back now, we probably should have stayed closer to this area, but when we booked our lodging, the pickings were pretty slim.
The Lady Lasers started the day with a 2 to 5 loss against a quite good team from Utah. It was a fairly close game and I don't know for sure, but I think the Utah team ended up advancing quite far in the bracket.
Their second game was against a team from Texas and they ended up beating them 10 to 2 late in the game. This was actually a really close game from what I remember, but in one of the later innings, the Lasers put up a massive seven runs and that pushed them over the top for the victory.
The team from Texas never had a chance to catch up.
These games were played on The 4th of July, but it really didn't hold as much significance as you might expect. I'll explain that more in one of the future posts I write on my main account. You will just have to be patient!
With those two games in the books, pool play was finished. That means starting on Friday we had bracket play. I mentioned before that there were a lot of teams in this tournament. Given that fact and the two losses the team had over the past two days, it was expected that they would get a 4 or 5 seed in bracket play.
Instead, the Lasers Scarlet team ended up getting a 2 seed based on the number of runs they scored over the past two days and the number of runs they allowed. It was 33 runs scored and 15 runs allowed if you were keeping track. Many other teams didn't come close to that.
You will have to check back tomorrow to find out how the first day of bracket play went. All I am going to say right now is I am very proud of these ladies. They suffered a lot of adversity and they handled all of it very well.
It was really a pleasure to travel all the way to Colorado and watch them play.
