It was a pretty quiet night on the college basketball front. There were only three games and just one of them had an outcome that was a bit of a surprise.
Duke easily handled Wofford which is about what I would expect from Duke. I personally can't stand the Blue Devils, but they always seem to put together some pretty decent teams each year. I think many people would probably equate Duke's success in college basketball to Alabama's success in college football.
Except this year...
The name Wofford might not mean anything to many of you, but if you follow college basketball, you will recognize that they have made it to the NCAA tournament in the past. Yes it was back in 2014 and they lost to Michigan, but the fact that they made it there at all speaks a little bit to the program I feel.
Twelfth ranked Auburn had a victory over North Carolina State. It wasn't as big of a victory as I might have expected for a ranked team over an unranked one. To be fair though, NC State has made it to the tournament 26 times in the past and in 1974 and 1983 they won the national title. Depending on how their season goes, this might be a team that can spoil some brackets come March.
Finally, the sad sad performance by Maryland led to an upset by Seton Hall. Again, being fair, I don't think this Seton Hall team is one you want to underestimate. They have some pretty unimpressive losses, but they did almost edge out Michigan State back in November so I think there is a spark there that they might be able to fan into a flame at some point in the season.
I am hoping I will have a more robust bracket this year. Because of Sports Talk I will probably be following more NCAA teams this year than I have in the past. Usually, I just care about what my Spartans are doing.
There is just a single game tonight with Penn State taking on Central Connecticut State. Then moving into the weekend we see much more action. I will try to cover it as best I can but with the holidays coming there might be some lapses in my writing.
