Once again, Barcelona are the champions of Spain. Last night, the team lifted its 29th LaLiga title with a 2-0 victory in a historic win. For years, the trophy-which has been won more times than any team by the two Spanish giants and greatest rivals in football-has always been won after the ElClásico, which happens to be the biggest football match. Well, we've not been seeing much of that intensity and classic in recent times.
It was a monumental ElClásico victory for La Blaugrana, who set the record of winning the league for the first time in an ElClásico game. The victory saw the team go 14 points clear at the top of the table, gaining 91 points with rivals and yesterday's opponents Real Madrid following up in no close range with 77 points. It was clear that the league has now been won by Barcelona, who are winning it for the second time in a row.
The dream of a second treble under the great management of the German overlord, Hansi Flick didn't come alive. The highly coveted UCL trophy once again eluded the team but having two trophies this season, I guess eases some of that. The Spotify Camp Nou was filled with the Culers, in loud songs and chants of the club, giving morale to the players. Certainly, the streets of Barcelona were painted with celebration last night.
In the match, it was an easy job for the team. Real Madrid seemed to be in an off state with clumsy passes and a lack of unity. It has been a hard week for them and football fans know what happened with the team. Nevertheless, beating this team hasn't been a problem for the Hansi Flick side as they've lost only one of the last six ElClásicos. Goals from Rashford; the wonderful free kick and from Ferran Torres in the first half gave Barcelona the victory.
It wasn't a tough game, but Barcelona players once again showed their masterclass on the pitch. Pedri, as usual was controlling the tempo of the game and reading it like the magician he is. The defenders did a good job with a few lapses. Eric Garcia was superb, leaving Vinicius no chance of doing much when it came to 1v1. It was a much-needed change in the starting lineup by Hansi Flick.
There isn't really much to say about the match, except that Barcelona players kept the game in control as usual and the Real Madrid players couldn't do much as seen in recent ElClásicos, though this was much for them to handle. Well, we can say the injuries affected their outcome. But I strongly believe that it would have been a Barcelona victory nonetheless, who had their injury troubles too, keeping the likes of Lamine Yamal out and we saw the return of Raphinha.
In the end, it was a well-deserved victory and a league title win. The Barcelona team is the youngest in the league, with great potential and prospects. So, we'll certainly be seeing more of these players for the next couple of years. Let's see what the next season holds. But for now, we celebrate this victory and title win. Kudos to Hansi Flick, the players and the management of the club. Visca Barça!
