What a Night!
With what was probably one of the biggest knockout in heavyweight history, Francis Ngannou becomes the first African Heavyweight UFC champion of the world, making Cameroon proud and cementing his legacy.
It is clear that the MMA gods answered our prayers, this was an incredible night with really amazing fights, here are my favourite fights of the night.
Francis Ngannou vs Stipe Miocic.
From the first round, it was clear that "The Predator" Francis Ngannou was a different man from their previous encounter. After a
The round starts cautiously, there's a clear tension in the air, but Francis is patient and pick his shots, there's a lot of faints. It's pretty clear that Ngannou is bigger than Stipe Miocic, especially with a smaller octagon like this one, 30% smaller.
Ngannou connects clean with a right hand, but Stipe takes the shot. Francis is staying patient, there's a takedown attempt by Stipe and The Predator defends it perfectly, and rain down with a flurry of punches while Stipe is turtling up, incredible succession of events but Stipe survives.
Miocic looks completely frightned by the power of Francis, he then connects with a high kick that Stipe absorbs, everybody is on the edge of their seats and it's nearly the end of the first round.
With one minute left, the two fighters are slowing down a little, a clear round for Ngannou, the champion is in real danger and shakes his head at the end of the round.
The second round will be a highlight real and here is the finish:

Now the question that is on everyone's lips, what's next for Francis?
I don't know if a trilogy fight with Stipe is a possibility, but there is one man that could cause Francis some problems, and it's the previous Light Heavyweight champion Jon "Bone" Jones, that is making his debut at heavyweight.
I think it's the fight that needs to be made, they probably will want him to fight Derek Lewis first.
Congratulation to new champion, just spectacular!
The Suga Show!!!
Ok, I probably need to apologize to Sean O'Malley for doubting his skills, it is clear that is level is well above anyone else in the division, and as the commentators pointed it out, there is noone else like him, you might not enjoy his cockiness and his colourful hairstyle, or the nonchalant attitude, but you have to recognize his technical abelites, the way his movements flow, it's just incredible to watch.
After a first round where Suga Sean looked sensational, he quickly use his reach advantage with quick combos from an unorthodox stance. Almeida get almost knocked out, but O'Malley doesn't pull the trigger quickly enough and don't get the finish. The commentators keep on reminding us that Suga Sean is too cocky, and should have tried to end the fight instead of walking away so early, but I truly think he wanted to take his time in there.
O'Malley looked levels above any other bantamweight, and even if you can criticize his lack of realism when it was time to finish, but he is really pulling on a show. That was so entertaining.
Almeida will survive another round, even dropped Suga (it was a trip), only to be knocked out with a similar combination in round 3:

I loved this fight, and as I was very critical in the past toward his "yes man" cornerman, and their denial regarding his loss against Chito Vera, I have to admit that he was so good tonight, I can see him reigning over the bantamweight division for a long time if he continue fighting like this.
Cheers Tyron Woodley
I feel bad for Woodley, he had such an incredible run in his prime, and to end up on a note like this, it was kind of sad to watch. I really have so much respect for the athlete, his capabilities, and when motivated could accomplish prowess that only the elite kind can accomplish.
I could not help but thinking that's why a champion like GSP retires early, because at 38 years old, it's inevitable that there will be a downfall,
Tyron did not hang his gloves yet, but This is his obvious choice, he had a great career, he still has a lot of other gigs going on "on the side" like his musical career and his spot on TMZ.
Woodley get rocked, and get choked...What a surprise...

What was your favourite fight of the night?
For me, it was the main event, I cannot wait to see how this win will shape the heavyweight division, for years to come. Francis made the right adjustments, and now is the heavyweight champion, all well deserved. π
This is a great time for Africa, we might see an event there soon!
