The Italian team wasn't a match for the Argentine squad that went on to win the Uefa-Conmebol Cup of Champions at the Wembley Stadium, the South American side has won the title twice since they were able to defend the title after defeating Denmark to win the Finalissima in 1993.
The competition was stopped and relaunched in 2020, the winner of the Euro Cup and the Copa American will face one another in a single match to battle for the Cup.
Italy automatically picked up the ticket for the finalissima after defeating England in the Euro 2020 final while Argentina defeated their arch rival Brazil to play in the single match competition.
It was expected to be a tight fixture but Italy gave in cheaply and they conceded more than they usually do against Argentina, it is not the first time these sides are meeting but this will be their first competitive meeting and unfortunately for Italy, it had to be a final. Their previous encounters were friendly matches and Argentina has won all, tonight they made their fourth victory in four meetings.
The Italy team hasn't been the team we saw in the Euro, that passionate and determined squad have lost their form, it has gone so bad that they even failed to qualify for the World Cup. I expected them to be the ferocious Italian squad against the Argentine but they were completely toothless and the South Americans didn't hesitate to do what they do best.
It didn't end with two goals like we usually saw in the friendlies, Argentina put three goals past the Italian team in Europe. They dominated the match all through and got the best results out of the match, it was a well-deserved victory, and tonight's performance would make me say that the Argentine squad looks organized and prepared for the World Cup.
I would have loved to say that the Italian side isn't a worthy opponent but they won the Euro meaning they are the best European country football-wise, a side like Belgium could have done better than they did tonight. The victory tonight should definitely give the Argentine squad a good boost ahead of the world cup, competitions like this boost the team morale very well and I must say a big congratulations to them for being a good representative of the South American countries.
Martinez opened the scoreline in the 28 minutes, I expected an experienced defense line like that of Italy to hold down the Argentine attack but it looks like they weren't in the match mood as Lionel Messi's square ball find Martinez who taps it in gently into the net.
I was expecting an equalizer until the first half additional minute when Di Maria found the net to double Argentina's lead, I knew there was trouble at that point for Italy. Conceding twice before halftime shows how bad they showed up for the encounter, it would be hard coming back in the second half.
We saw few attempts from the Italian sides, even though the Argentines dominated more. In the 94th minute, Paulo Dybala scored the third goal to make it 3 - 0 and it was the first time Argentina scored more than two goals against the Italian team.
I will say it was a disappointing performance from Italy and they will have a terrible time in the Uefa Nations League if the team is not properly checked for what the problem could be and the quickest solution because they don't have much time since the Uefa Nations kicked off already.
They are paired against England and Germany, I doubt if they will survive the group judging by the team poor performance in recent times. Congratulations to Lionel Messi and other players on the Argentine team for adding a title to their names and one to the Argentine trophy cabinet, they will look forward to defending the title again in a few years if they successfully win the Copa American again.
Is the Cup valuable enough to be used as bragging rights between the two football federations?
I doubt if the Cup can be usemore updates are comings better, but as it is, Argentina is the champion of the two Federations combined.
Stay tuned, more updates are coming your way.
