I believe most people have seen the story and read about the accusations with proofs levied against Mason Greenwood by his girlfriend. It's sad to see another young player wasting away his talent. We have seen a lot of them in football and you can't help but wonder why they always throw what they have away effortlessly.
Mason Greenwood is talented and admired even with his talent but this shows now why we don't have to put too much pressure on young players. I remember back them with Manchester United, most young players would have to wait for their chance before being afforded the chance in the first team. They would try their hands in the FA Cup and early stages of now "Carabao Cup" and whoever impressed the most would be given the chance as a substitute in the Premier League or for games that first-team players needed to be rested for, but now, young players are thrown into the line of fire which makes them think they have attained when they should have been learning more.
When a young player gets thrown into the line of fire, it's like you are forcing maturity so early on them. The crises at Manchester United also gave room for this because they have been average and it's shameful they have to rely too heavily on this young player. This same problem stunted the career of Adnan Januzaj at Manchester United. If care is not taken, there would be more sporting disaster of this nature when young players are being saddled with too many responsibilities that would in the long run affect their growth. Learning and character development is essential in football and the more we kick it to the curb the more problem like this we would see.
Don't get me wrong, I am never and would never give an excuse for his foolish attitude, I am only saying the young man should have focused on growing rather than thinking he has gotten to where he wants to be and that's on him. What he did with his girlfriend; the beating and the humiliation given to that young girl was unwarranted and this would see his career go down the drain. Let's be honest, who wants to identify with such a player?
Mason Greenwood caved under pressure and those around him should have helped him but if you are the type that won't stand anyone telling you what you have done wrong, this is how their character deficit starts to show and you can't do so much for such a person.
Mason Greenwood just threw his career away even before he began with this newfound evidence and allegations levied against him by his girlfriend. The public can be unforgiving in scenarios like this and you have to agree with the public on this one. What he did was evil and he was getting his frustration from someone while pouring it out on a young girl who knew nothing about it. The Police are now involved and with his contact now hanging in the balance, we don't know what would become of Mason Greenwood going forward.
It would be shameful to see another talent go down the drain but what can we all do about it? Nothing because he laid his bed the way he wanted and should be ready to sleep on it as he chose. Not everyone can handle pressure, he got it early and should have been humble to learn but no, in addition to his character flaw, now he is alone to pick up the pieces of his life. This is what happens when young players these days want to act like they need no one. Talent alone is not enough, you have to be able to learn and be humble.
