It wasn't long ago that we had the conspiracy regarding the breakaway league where most fans kicked against the idea before forcing their respective clubs to pull out of it. I wasn't in support of it either because they are trying to make football all about money even though these days we can't take away the importance of money.
The fans kicked against it, even fans that their teams are part of it because the only thing they are enjoying about football is about to be taken away from there. It's a threat to the football that many have come to love and the collective voice had to send UEFA packing up on their ideas. It was shameful that they are negotiating human feelings and passions for money and more shameful too for the clubs that accepted before they were found out.
The whole idea of this doesn't make sense because what we look forward to in the Champions League would now become a regular in a League on both legs. It has taken away the excitement, the fun and the unpredictability of the draws away from the fan and this is one of the many reasons why the fans kicked against it.
The recent events rocking the world right now regarding Ukraine and Russia has eaten too deep into football as well and I am glad to see clubs take stands against Russia by pulling out their endorsements and affiliations with Russia. This has nothing to do with Russian players but Russia as a country which is why it's understandable because West Ham had to give Yarmalenko a few days off because he wasn't also pleased with the turn of events and the course of actions taken by his country as I believe many Russian players wouldn't be okay with as well.
It's good to see UEFA making a stand that is different from a money-making venture for the good of everyone and the world at large. It's interesting to see that humanity has gotten to UEFA and they changed the venue of the Champions League Final to Paris instead of the initial Zenith Saint Petersburg. I was happy to read the change of venue and for once, UEFA did something without factoring money into it. Maybe this would become the new trend where we would value the health, safety and sanity of sports lovers all over the world to make a difference in the world even for those who are not into sports.
I was also happy to read that Manchester United pulled out of a deal from their Russian partner who was the official carrier for the team. I won't give them another publicity which is why I won't even mention their name in this article. It's good to see Manchester United swing into action even though many people said they should have acted earlier. It's hard to act earlier when you haven't reviewed the contractual agreement before pulling the plugs. They needed to make sure there won't be any legal implications going forward and I am glad they finally severed their ties with this Russian outlet.
We have gotten to the era where money won't take precedence over human lives. We saw that with Christian Eriksen where the whole world forgot about money, loyalty, race and culture to embrace what humanity should truly stand for and that's where we are going with sports right now and that's the new trend I want to see going forward.
Cheers.
