The BCCI on Friday confirmed that India's limited-overs captain Rohit Sharma has been awarded India's highest sporting honor. Rohit is the fourth cricketer to win the award. The award is expected to be presented on August 29 due to the ongoing coronavirus epidemic.
Rohit had a remarkable 2019 where he averaged 1500 runs in ODIs at 57 and finished the tournament with the highest number of runs scored in a five century World Cup. He was promoted to opener in Test cricket where he scored 556 runs in five matches.
