Hello, it's been a long, long time since I shared a post in this community. Of course I continue to watch soccer and especially follow tournaments like the Champions League. I would like to watch local leagues but I don't have that much time. The other day I watched Manchester City vs Real Madrid and I thought, watching soccer used to be more enjoyable.
I'm sure most people in this community watched the game or know the result. Those who didn't watch the game might think that Real Madrid played well enough to get through, but believe me, they didn't. Yes, I know, they are a club with an incredible winning culture and I respect them for getting through, congratulations. But Real Madrid is a big club, they spend millions of euros and earn billions. Is this the football they are going to offer us?
The only thing they did in both games was to have 11 men behind the ball and wait. When they get the ball, they play a long ball in front of Vinicius Jr, Bellingham and Rodrygo and do something with their personal skills. If you watch the game you'll see that and it was really boring. Fortunately we had some incredible goals and that part was enjoyable. Both teams managed to score magic goals from outside the penalty area. Especially Phil Foden proved that he is a real star. He always showed that he has potential but he showed that he can reach it and that he will be there for years to come.
Now let's take a look at the statistics. Manchester City had 33 shots in total and Real Madrid had 8 shots. The possession is also 68%-32% in favor of Manchester City. Something even stranger is that Real Madrid used only 1 corner throughout the match. Dude, this game lasted 120 minutes excluding extra time! Is this what Real Madrid fans expect? Let's send Vini Jr to Crystal Palace and they can play the same game. What Real Madrid did was sad for me.
But man, that's what modern soccer requires. Defending the field well, narrowing the gap between players and scoring one goal more than the opposition to win the match. I don't think this is sustainable. Teams like Real Madrid, Man. City, Bayern Munich should have a game culture and try to dominate the opponent. They could be the strongest. But I don't think they can do it with this game. Look at other teams that are trying to rejuvenate, if you don't choose the right players and the right game, your team will be nothing but garbage. I can sadly give the examples of Chelsea and Manchester United. On the contrary, Arsenal are making incredible progress with the right squad structure. My last words, I hope Real Madrid will do the right thing and show us good football.
