Oh, my! Let's talk about liverpool and their performance in the champions league.
This football club is taking me on a rollercoaster ride with their performance. How can a team look so good and still so poor at the same time?
We played one of the worst 90 minutes of football against a 'mere' Nottingham Forest a few days ago. As if that's not enough, we lost that game and gifted the Nottingham folks 3 points on a platter. The same Liverpool stepped into the European light this night and completely outclassed Ajax.
I can't think of a perfect case study to use and highlight the level of inconsistency we've seen from this Liverpool side this season, but the good news is that the wheel of inconsistency played out in our favour tonight.
What a night!
Did you watch that game between Ajax and Liverpool?
We were lucky to finish the first half of the game without a deficit of 2-3 goals.
Liverpool's performance in the first half was very awful. The midfield got outran and the attackers spent most of their playing time in midfield or defence. Even when Salah helped us place a foot forward by scoring in the 42nd minute of the game, it looked like one of those goals that will only lead to a comeback from the opposing team.
The second half came as a different ball game. The touches, passes, intensity, finishing... everything! Every freaking thing was spot-on. We sealed the victory 7 minutes into the second half, thanks to the masterclass of Nunez and Elliot.
The rest is history.
Liverpool has made it to the knockout stage of the Champions League with a game to spare. This gives me a satisfactory feeling. I needed the result so much and I'm glad it came in style.
Our next UCL game will be against Napoli. They are already on top of the table and we both have nothing to play for except pride and some H2H stats. Haha.
Can Liverpool maintain this form when they play premier league games?
This makes for an interesting talking point which can be explored from different angles, but from what we've seen this season, having high expectations from liverpool, especially in premier league games usually comes back to bite me hard.
I can only wish for a nice performance, but whatever happens, I won't be surprised.
Thanks For Not Missing Any Full-stop Or Comma.
