In just a few minutes, the Barcelona vs Real Betis as they battle it out for the Supercopa de España semi-finals. Then an hour after, will be the match that I am really anticipating, it's Chelsea vs Fulham at Craven Cottage, the home stadium of Fulham FC. I have a couple of interesting reasons why I am really anticipating this matchup and here are my reasons:
Chelsea is in Poor Form
Looking at their recent results, it is clear that Chelsea has underperformed under Graham Potter. Potter was brought back from Brighton and Hove Albion, who was successful under his regime. They brought him to Stamford Bridge in the hopes of turning things around after Thomas Tuchel mess.
He was expected to deliver as Chelsea has players that has qualities than what he had in Brighton. It is a fact and the fans and management expected quality results, but they ended up becoming more frustrated. Having lost 4-0 against Manchester City in the FA Cup, 1-0 against City again in Premier League, and drawn 1-1 against Nottingham Forest. So this match is very important and crucial for Chelsea to keep their morale high and fight for the hopes of getting their Champions League ticket.
A lot of Players Have been Injured
- Edouard Mendy (Goalkeeper)
- N'golo Kante (Midfielder)
- Reece James (Right-back)
- Wesley Fofana (Midfielder)
- Ben Chilwell (Left-back)
- Ruben Loftus-Cheek
- Raheem Sterling
- Christian Pulisic
These players are very important to the Chelsea squad as these players have vital positions under Graham Potter's system. So this is really exciting for me to watch how Graham Potter will utilize the players he currently have. Well, I have to be honest Chelsea still has quality players despite these injuries. It's just become predictable.
Graham Potter is under Fire
Because of Chelsea's poor performances, it can't be denied that the fans are getting frustrated. After the Champions League triumph of Thomas Tuchel, the club fell stumbling in all competitions and they are hoping Potter can turn things around. However, the outcome was different.
This is the reason why this Fulham match is very important for him and for Chelsea if they are aiming to contest for that final four slot, the positions needed to qualify for the Champions League next year.
